1.1 The short story

Explorers Record Club is a society of sixties enthusiasts from Norway. We collect records and play them all over Norway and Europe.

1.2 The long story

We think safari hats and crocodile hunting looks real cool, but we never had the guts to go on a real safari. Instead we get our kicks by collecting records and play them in clubs for people who's not on safari either (at least not in the conventional way (you can always say that clubbing is a sort of safari in the urban jungle, but that is not a very good metaphor (I don't think we should think of going to clubs as something adventurous (usually we just drink a few drinks, shake the right leg and watch the girls that are pretty enough to care about, but not so pretty that we turn around and blush))).

But even though there have been no rhino hunting or spectacular expeditions to the north pole, we still dream of being brave explorers who can sit in the salon of our exclusive club and tell tales of our latest adventures while drinking cognac and selters-water (a so called pjolter, named so after the bartender P.J Holter who worked at the bar in Grand Hotel in Oslo in the thirties). After thinking about it, we came to the conclusion that being member of an exclusive club where we can drink pjolters, while trying to impress each other, actually was so important that we had to use our record collections as some kind of substitute for the lack of rhino heads over the couch.

So we formed the Explorers Record Club, and it's almost like a club for real men, except we don’t listen to breathtaking hunting tales, but rather British beat, French yé yé, exotica, mod jazz, psychedelic jams, afro beat, northern and southern soul, eastern and western funk and everything else that sounds exotic and old fashioned. We also blog about this music at this site so that you can do some explorations on your own.

2. About this website

This website is a collection of all the things we find on our discoveries throughout the computer galaxy and during our exotic travels around the globe. It is not so much about the club as it is about everything 60s related — music, lifestyle, people, fashion... Please feel free to contribute and share anything you think might interest us and the rest of the 60s scene around the world. Tune in, space out!
